Sue Vincent
Sue has been making pottery since the Spring of 1989. She states “I remember this because after the ‘quake I went to the studio in Sunnyvale and found the Tech shoveling pottery shards out of a kiln. I was glad none of my pieces were in that kiln. (Though none were worth keeping at that point).” Sue is now very much improved and honored to have her work compared to that of her first instructor, Jay Trenchard.
Although not a tea drinker, Sue loves making teapots of all sorts. Sue also loves to experiment with different techniques and different clay bodies. Her favorites are Navajo Wheel, a dark reddish clay and Venus White, a creamy white clay for cone 5-6 firings in her studio, Springtown Art Center. Sue loves to Raku and Pitfire. “These processes allow me to instantly see the results of my glazing technique. They also allow me to be more closely involved in the entire process.” comments Sue.
Sue won 2nd place in 3D at the Spring Art Show in 2016 and a Silver Award for her donut teapot titled “Sofia Tea Goddess” in the 2018 Alameda County Fair in the Fine Arts Category.
